Seizan ~ Japanese Restaurant
Yet another Japanese restaurant! We went here on 2 occasions to celebrate 2 birthdays ^_^
Seizan is located at:
566 Hay Street
Perth WA 6000
When you reach the approximate location, you might not be able to see the restaurant. If you look hard there is an opening and stairway leading down to a ‘basement’..there’s also a sign that says “Seizan” but I didn’t even notice it haha – and this place isn’t dodgey so it’s okay!!
On the first occasion, we went to try the Teppanyaki -
On one side of the room there are western styled dining tables, on the other side are traditional Japanese Chabudai which are low tables with cusions for seats – there is plenty of leg room as the floor area under the Chabudai tables are sunken.
This fish likes to stay in that hole, it didn’t move during our entire stay at the restaurant.
I ordered the Hana Set which comes with Salad, Tempura, Prawn, Scallop, Salmon, Beef or Chicken, Mixed Vegetables, Miso soup, Rice, Dessert – Costs $49.
Sashimi! from left to right – Tuna, Yellowtail and Salmon, plus pickles
The Chef cooks in front of us, he also performs many tricks, such as spinning and throwing around the salt/pepper bottles, flips the spatula and throws knives and sharp objects in the air!! and randomly hitting the hot plate but that looked cool too.
Cleaning the prawns – the square hole on the right is actually a small opening to the bin.
Smells very yummy
One of the tricks – though I think it’s custom to stand the prawns up like that by the Teppanyaki chef.
Roast the prawns before eating them. Oh yea…he will ask you to “please not be alarmed” when he sets the prawns on fire.
Bean sprouts.
My beef :D was tender and yum.
We were not warned this time – my face got fried - he also added more alcohol to keep the flame burning higher and longer. By the way, the beef is still inside those flames.
Beef all cooked and ready to eat ^.^![]()
“Thank you” – hehe i like! … the chef must be skilled in writing upside down !!!!
Seizan – the 2nd occasion and 2nd birthday celebration:
Sashimi – same types of fish as above.![]()
Sukiyaki – The reason why we picked this dish is because we wanted to try it first before going to Japan next year to see what it’s like – then we will know what to choose when we have Kobe Beef in Japan =). Costs $28 per person.
The difference between Sukiyaki and steam boat is the soup stock and ingredients – which makes them quite different already. Sukiyaki uses soy sauce, sugar and mirin as the soup base (it’s not strong at all – the sweet and salt mixure balances out the flavour). And I think Sukiyaki is always eaten with beef and raw egg as the dipping sauce (though steam boat you can put almost any ingredients in it). Beef and raw egg go well together.
yum yum. Having carrots in Sukiyaki is a bit strange though O_O
Overall – well worth the visit! will go again!

Burswood ~ Modo Mio: Cucina Italiana ~ restaurant
Last night we went to Modo Mio Italian restaurant~~~ It is a fairly new restaurant in Burswood and at the moment, very popular! We were actually planning to dine there on Sunday night…I called to book on that night, but it was fully booked until thursday!!!!!! Be sure to book 5 to 7 days in advance :)
The interior has a cream coloured theme, one of the walls is covered with flowing cream curtains, the centre poles that you can see on the right is also curtain. Seats are squishy and comfortable, the table top is LEATHER!! the non stick soft type of leather. The lamps and wall lights are very cute…reminds me of a doll house.
Entree –
I’m not sure what it’s called on the menu, the dishes are in Italian though there is a description. I’d probably describe this as garlic muffin, texture is similar to English Yorkshire Pudding. Crispy on outside similar to pastry, and inside is like savoury muffin though it’s slightly undercooked inside so the inside is very moist. VERY yummy
Squid Ink Fettuccine
I ordered this one!!!!!!!! I saw that it had squid ink and I wanted to try squid ink for a longggggg time! It’s homemade fettuccine specially made by the head chef himself. Lots of seafood (mainly scallops and fish), cherry tomatoes…and fresh foam on top…fresh from the squid :D haha I haven’t had a dish with foam on it before but I’ve seen it in a lot of fine dining on the food blogs I follow….so I can't tell you where the foam comes from. Delicious pasta, I don’t think I could taste squid ink though.
Roast Chicken
Lots of roasted items on this dish, you can already see all the ingredients this dish encompasses…I think the best part was the mini black discs which I believe are a type of fried Italian sausage.
Squid Ink Risotto
We actually ordered the italian ham risotto, but this arrived at our table instead. The portion is actually quite BIG! considering most of the other dishes we ordered were very small. I could taste the squid ink in this dish…it tastes salty and vinigary at the same time..it’s also not really sauce textured..the texture is like real ink we right with our pens and it stained the dish really easily. It doesn’t taste fishy though, it had a clean “cant describe it” flavour…very nice though ^^![]()
Seafood Pizza
This was HUGE! bigger than the regular pizza from fast foods so you know it will fill your stomach. We actually ordered 2 pizzas, but after eating this one it was too much, so we cancelled the 2nd pizza. If you have been to Ciao Italia then you will know what this pizza tastes like…very similar in taste and texture. I like! the tentacle was the best part LOL nah kidding, all of it was best eaten together ^^
They also provide fresh baked bread rolls and 3 dips (olive oil, sea salt and vinegar) while waiting for your food to come out.
When you order coffee, they provide sweets and sugar cubes (which aren’t cube shaped, they’re all diff sizes and look handmade)
Tiramisu
Was already so full by this time…surprisinly the tiramisu was extremlyyyy light and the sweetness was very subtle . At the bottom you’ll see more liquid…liqueur! and a very strong one too..I normally can’t taste much liqueur in tiramisu but this one is generous in that portion :)
Affogato
Coffee with a scoop of ice cream….I struggled with finishing the coffee….too strong for me
Italian Coffee
Tastes like the star-aniseed herb or liquorice
Worth visiting, comfortable atmosphere, if you go there and you get John as your waiter…you are lucky! he is a funny person and will make sure to look after you…DON’T FORGET TO GIVE TIPS before you leave!!
